UPDATE ON ROCHELLE ISD INVESTIGATION:
On September 9, 2024 Richland Springs ISD Police Department Chief of Police, Dwayne Shaw, was in contact with the McCulloch County Sheriff’s Office and was advised that DPS
Criminal Investigations Division had investigated the threat made towards Rochelle ISD. It was determined that the call did not originate from this area and was routed through two foreign countries.
Other information obtained through the investigation, leads law-enforcement to believe that the call made to the crisis hotline is a “hoax”.
As always, Richland Springs ISD will remain vigilant in safeguarding our district, campus, students, staff, and visitors.
Thank you for your cooperation during this event.
Jeff Kirby, Superintendent
Dwayne Shaw, Chief of Police
Rhonda Wyatt, Principal

NO ACTIVITES ON CAMPUS MONDAY SEPTEMBER 9TH:
September 8, 2024
On September 7, 2024 around 11:30 PM, the McCulloch County Sheriff’s Office notified Rochelle ISD of a phone call that was made to a National Crisis Hotline, from someone who alleged to be a student. That caller claimed to be in crisis and during the phone call made a threat directed towards Rochelle Independent School District, provided incomplete information to the crisis hotline and as of present time there is no clear indication of who the caller may be.
Local law enforcement with McCulloch County is actively working the investigation into this call to determine if the threat is legitimate. Given the seriousness of this call and the fact that the investigation is ongoing, Richland Springs ISD has canceled all practices and games scheduled for Monday, September 9th.
Richland Springs will communicate further with McCulloch County Sheriff’s Office to obtain updated information as to the investigation and necessary steps for Richland Springs ISD.
Even though Richland Springs ISD is not directly targeted in the phone call, due to the nature of the call and it being an open investigation, we have decided to err on the side of caution. The safety of our students, staff, and community are of the utmost importance. It is important that no staff or students are on campus for any reason on Monday the 9th. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
