Coyote Pride

The annual Book Fair, Open House, and FAFSA orientation were all well-attended and were great opportunities for parent involvement. Kira Hobbs won a $200 scholarship at the FAFSA orientation and financial aid presentation by Ronny Barnes from Panhandle-Plains. The annual Book Fair was again the center of attention in the Wayne Gossett Memorial Library. Librarian Valerie Gossett thanks all parents who supported the library’s annual fundraiser. Mrs. Gossett would like to thank everyone for making the Book Fair an overwhelming success again this year. The library should receive around $600 worth of new books thanks to everyone’s purchases. The faculty and staff of Richland Springs encourage and support parent participation in their child’s education. It’s great to see our community supporting students in their efforts to achieve.

Richland Springs students will learn about fire safety and farm safety this week. October is Fire Prevention Month, and RSVFD volunteer fireman Armondo Garcia will bring a fire truck on campus on Tuesday, October 2 at 10 a.m. and talk about fire safety. Sue Ransom and 5th grade students will travel to the San Saba Civic Center on Wednesday, October 3 for Farm Safety Day.

All the football teams were involved in football action last week. The junior high team lost to Evant junior high 30-20. The junior varsity team lost to Evant junior varsity 48-0.  The varsity Coyotes wrapped up their 4th consecutive victory with a 71-22 mercy rule victory over the Evant Elks. The Coyote varsity squad has a bye week this coming Friday, but the Coyote junior high will host the Austin Royals junior high team this Thursday at Coyote Field at 5:30 p.m., and the junior varsity team will play the Austin Royals JV squad at 6:30.

The first six-weeks of school is history. Report cards will be sent home to parents this week. Each year we hear about increased rigor in STAAR testing. Richland Springs staff will be working with all students and all ability levels to increase student learning. Rigor must be combined with relationships, relevance, and results in order to benefit student learning. Rigor refers to the need for students to reach higher levels of competence in academic areas. An appropriate and healthy environment for learning begins with relationships. Positive relationships among students and faculty are essential to student success. Relationships refer to coaching and encouragement from adults towards students. Education must have meaning every day for students. Relevance refers to making learning meaningful. The results of student learning are important to teachers. Data from assessing students for their mastery of standards is used to adjust instructional practices across the campus, and to individualize student support. The presence of rigor, relationships, relevance, and results prepare students to become problem solvers, decision makers, and lifelong learners. Teachers are at the heart of your child’s education process. Develop a relationship with your child’s teachers and support them in their efforts for your child’s success. Teachers should be placed in high esteem in your home, and in the community. We have a great community, students, teachers and staff. It takes everyone working together to achieve success.
