Richland Springs High School Advances to Area in One Act Play

The Richland Springs High School production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest , by Dale Wasserman and from the novel by Ken Kesey, advanced to the Area contest last Saturday evening, March 23rd at Bangs High School.  The Area contest will be held Saturday, March 31st at Angelo State University auditorium.  

At the Bi-District contest,  Lane Garcia was named to the All-Star Technicans' Cast while Jared Martin and Santiago Valdez were named to the All-Star Cast.   Cameron Parham was named Best Actor.  Other members of the cast were these:  Kimberly Nilson, Gracie Ashworth, Callie Hammett, Kelton Tippie, Ben Schultz, Chase Gossett, James Carlisle, Dawson Crysler.   Additional members of the crew were these:  Jaianna Smith, Sierra Tharp, Madia Norris, and Tina Cazares.  Lanie Norris served as an alternate.  Directors are Patsy Hall, Marta Martin, Valerie Gossett, and Armando Garcia.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest performed by Richland Springs received a ranking of first place from all three judges.  Three ones is a rare occurrence in the one act play contest.  The judges were:  Trey Foster, who has acted professionally on Broadway in NYC and has a degree in theatre,  Kelsey Kling, who has a Master's degree in theatre and is also a professional actress and the Fine Arts Coordinator for the Texas Education Agency, and Terry Marrs, who has a Master's degree in theatre and has served as a high school theatre teacher and taken his shows to the state meet many times.  The OAP Company received compliments from the judges such as these:  "Great job today on a terribly challenging show!"  "Fabulous job today by every one of you."  "Thank you for bringing me into the asylum with you today."   "Bravo!"  "Thank you so much for your work today."  "You laid a really excellent foundation of character work and plot construction."  "I really liked the choice to emphasize the Chief in the cutting of this show."

The Company of "Cuckoo's Nest" would like to invite everyone to the Area contest on March 31st.  Six plays will perform with shows beginning at 2:30.  Plays will perform in this order and back-to-back.  

      1.  Cross Plains -- The Miracle Worker

      2.  Water Valley -- The Rimers of Eldritch

      3.  Richland Springs -- One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

      4.  Sterling City -- Life With Father

      5.  Santa Anna -- Crimes of the Heart

      6.   Aspermont -- Beggars Opera
