RICHLAND SPRINGS LIVESTOCK JUDGING TEAM COMPETES AT SAN ANTONIO
Submitted by Shawn Dennis, Ag Science Teacher
Congratulations to the Richland Springs FFA Livestock Judging Team. Twelve students competed in the San Antonio Livestock Judging Contest at the San Antonio Stock Show on February 25th. One team placed 5th and the 2nd team placed 19th in competition with 84 teams from all over the State. This was the first time out for the Livestock Team this year, and what is most exciting was the fact that the teams consisted of 6th graders and 8th graders. It is exciting to see these students take on Livestock Evaluation and Husbandry at such a young age and somehow manage to contain the enthusiasm that they have. These students have a bright future and are excited to take part in this contest area. The teams consisted of Raegan Wright, Ryleigh Bryant, Sierra Tharp and Lili Appleton with Sierra Tharp at 16th high individual and Raegan Wright at 19th high individual. The 2nd team consisted of Jadeyn Bryant, Kenny Triplett, Jayden Sutherland and Lanie Norris with Jayden Bryant placing at 23rd high individual. Lane Garcia is gearing his interest towards Ag Mechanics.
Also at the San Antonio Stock Show Wade Appleton won the Medium Cross class and Gage Behrens placed 8th place with his medium wool lightweight lamb. This qualified both of these students for the Junior Livestock Sale. It looks like a bright future for the Coyote FFA program. These teams will soon be competing at the Houston Livestock Show on March 12th and will be attending Texas A&M Judging camps this summer.
