Coyote Pride

The 2017-2018 school year at Richland Springs began last Monday. Thanks to the teachers and staff and students, we had a great first week of school. This looks to be a great year of opportunity for our student body.

Athletics are in full gear. Cross country teams are pounding the pavement. Junior high and high school cross country teams will compete in the San Saba Cross Country meet this Wednesday. Football is in full swing. Junior high and varsity football teams are practicing on a daily basis. The varsity Coyotes outscored the Abbott Panthers in last Thursday’s scrimmage. The varsity Coyotes will play their first varsity game of the season against a tough Happy Cowboy team. This week’s game will be played at Jayton’s Jaybird Stadium in the 2017 Gridiron Classic. The Gridiron Classic features 9 games beginning on Thursday, continuing Friday and ending Saturday night. The marquis match-up is the Happy vs. Richland Springs game at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Richland Springs fans will sit on the visitor side. Admission prices for the Happy/Richland Springs game will be $5.00 per adult and $3.00 per student.  A weekend pass for all 9 games is $10.00. Gas up the cars and hit the road in support of the Coyotes in their quest for another State Championship! This week’s varsity pep rally will be at noon in the gym.

High school juniors and seniors have been taking TSI Reading and Writing tests to qualify for dual credit classes. TSI Math testing will happen this week. Math homework will be the norm this year. Rick Lasley is available for student math tutoring each morning at 7:00 a.m. upon student request. It was wonderful to see students working hard to achieve academic success.

Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September (September 4 in 2017). Richland Springs ISD will be closed on Monday, September 4th, and classes will resume on Tuesday September 5th.

Richland Springs ISD encourages parent involvement and grandparent involvement. Mark your Calendars for Friday, September 8th. Richland Springs ISD will celebrate Grandparents Day with a Grandparent’s Day Luncheon. Grandparents are cordially invited to attend lunch with their grandchildren on Sept. 8th. Richland Springs is a good place to live and raise a family. We have a great community, students, teachers and staff. It’s great to see our community supporting students in their efforts to achieve. It takes everyone working together to achieve success. If you see a teacher in public, tell them how much you appreciate their dedication and encouragement to our students.
