Coyote Pride

The summer will officially end for Richland Springs staff as they report for inservice on Monday, August 14th. The week of inservice allows for updated training of staff for the coming year.  Preparations for classrooms and instructional classes in anticipation of student arrival also occur during inservice. Students officially report for the first day of classes on Monday, August 21st.

The cooler weather arrived just in time for Monday, August 7th and the first day of football workouts. Coach Burkhart notes the Coyotes will have 23-25 athletes competing in varsity football this year. Thomas Tipton will move to offensive coordinator, Chad Ashworth remains the strength and conditioning coach, and Coach John Cherry will add his talents as he begins his debut year as a Coyote! It looks to be another stellar year for varsity athletics at Richland Springs. One of the schedule changes this year involves moving high school girls’ athletics period to 5th period. Coach Rick Lasley has made major upgrades to the girls’ locker room facilities. Moving the varsity girls’ athletic period before lunch allows for more high school student participation in agriculture related elective periods during the afternoon class periods. Ag science teacher Shawn Dennis is excited to be teaching Ag classes to students in grades 6-12. High school Ag students will be introduced to many FFA competitive programs. It looks to be another stellar year for varsity agriculture science students at Richland Springs.

Students in grades 7-12 can participate in theatre arts programs. One Act Play Director Patsy Hall notes that theatre teaches communication and nurtures student relationships. Through the rehearsal period, we model patience and teach students that projects come to fruition with time, flexibility and persistence.  Theatre rewards students with the fulfillment of working hard and seeing a project brought to fruition. It looks to be another stellar year for theatre students at Richland Springs.

Senior and junior student registration is scheduled for Tuesday, August 15th from 10:00-12:00 a.m. Sophomore and freshman student registration is scheduled for Wednesday, August 16th from 10:00-12:00 a.m.  Registration will be in the teacher workroom in the high school.

Qualified students in grades 10-12 can take dual credit courses which count for both high school and college credits. We have students that have graduated with 20-30 hours of college credits. Please ask about dual credit classes for your child.

Remember to drive slowly through campus during the week of inservice and during the first day of school. Watch out for our staff, parents and students who will be on campus for the opening weeks of school. Student success and safety are first and foremost at Richland Springs.
